Susan Lomartire – HeartSilks Founder
HeartSilks was founded by Susan Lomartire in 2007. A frequent and enthusiastic traveler, Susan seized an opportunity several years ago to travel to several underdeveloped countries as part of an international Human Resources project. The project turned out to be a life-altering experience. While aware that human trafficking existed, Susan was shocked and saddened to learn just how pervasive this activity had become in Cambodia. She returned home determined to somehow make a difference in even a small way.
Today, HeartSilks purchases products from several artisan groups whose ranks are comprised primarily of rescued victims of human trafficking. Each HeartSilks purchase contributes to the support of human trafficking victims and the organizations rescuing, sheltering, healing, training, employing and re-integrating them into society. Susan’s hope is that more people will join the abolitionist movement by becoming involved in efforts to eradicate the scourge of human trafficking. One way every person can support efforts to stop human trafficking is by purchasing fair trade products, thus reducing – and, one day, eliminating – the demand for cheaply produced, slave-made products.
Susan lives inNorth Carolina, and enjoys travel, gardening, and her pets. She continues to forge new relationships with rescue organizations, and is becoming more deeply involved in efforts to STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING – because no one should be for sale.
